my Artist Statement, motto, centering device, inspiration, and goal for present and future living. > Artist and author of "The Painter's Keys", Robert Genn, lists "artistic audacity" as one of the evaluation points he uses when he is on "jury duty" for an art show or competition. He also says "Ambition and audacity are quite frequently mistaken for talent and value." Webster defines audacity as "bold courage, daring, fearless, shameless or brazen boldness, (or) insolence." I think all artists could use a healthy dose of audacity in their creativity. Now that I've given you credit, I'm stealing this terminology gem from you, Robert! How's that for audacity? > Robert Genn also says "Audacity allows you to be at ease with your inadequacy, safe in the knowledge that while things may not be perfect, they are at least under way." > "Boldness has genius, power and magic. Engage, and the mind grows heated. Begin, and the work will be completed." ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe > "It is extremely liberating and a little scary, this power we artists have to create, destroy, or re-make ourselves as well as our work." ~ Becky Hicks Roesler > "We dance around a ring and suppose, the secret sits in the middle and knows." ~ Robert Frost > "A well-composed painting is half done." ~ Pierre Bonnard > Life as art: life lessons. Know your goal and how you plan to achieve it. Have a plan, a clear design in mind. Artist and author, Foster Caddel, says "The professional knows what he's after and has a plan established in his head of exactly how to achieve it. Every brush stroke either helps the painting or hurts it." And "...each stroke must absolutely be a contributing step toward the beautiful end result." Art as a never-ending road trip with a map and multiple destinations, yet always ready to explore the newly discovered side roads. Life as art and art as life. Have I found my mantra? ~ Becky Hicks Roesler > Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like no one is watching. (unknown author) > "I vote for art. All art all the time. Art as a predominant means of communication with the rest of the world. Art as an adjective. Art that heals. Art as a never-ending path of growth and knowledge." ~ Becky Hicks Roesler > Artist and author, Ted Goerschner, says that to be a good artist, you need to learn to be an excellent analyst. He considers analytical skills the most important of all to an artist. More important than talent or technical skills. What a relief! Thanks, Ted! > "Painting is just another way of keeping a diary." ~ Pablo Picasso > "When I've painted a woman's bottom so that I want to touch it, then the painting is finished." ~ Pierre Auguste Renoir > "I don't paint things. I only paint the difference between things." ~ Henri Matisse > "Efficiency is doing things right. Effectiveness is doing the right thing." ~ Zig Ziglar > "There's not a person in history that hasn't been criticized. So enjoy the fact that you haven't been left out." ~ Harley Brown More on the way. It would be great if you would email me about what inspires you.
